Dr Erin Carroll

 Psychologist

My experience

Dr. Erin Carroll, BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, DClinPsy, PGDip (CBT).

I have been providing specialist assessment and therapy for 17 years, most recently as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in NHS secondary care in adult mental health services in central London. I have worked with many people in many different kinds of distress, helping them develop an understanding of what has and continues to contribute to their difficulties and what they can do to reduce their distress. This process comes through careful listening, and a commitment to working alongside you to find a way forwards using the knowledge I have gained both academically and through my clinical experience.

I currently have a private psychology practice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. I am also involved in teaching trainees at the Tunbridge Wells Counselling Centre and trainee Clinical Psychologists on the Doctoral Clinical Psychology training course at Salomons, Tunbridge Wells, part of the University of Canterbury.

I currently provide in person appointments at my consulting room in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

With the right therapist, psychological therapy can be life-changing

My approach

I have been trained in a number of approaches to understanding our psychological difficulties, and am able to integrate my understanding of these models in order to benefit the person I am working with most effectively. I work within a psychodynamic framework, which focuses on how we have developed ways of managing our emotions and our sense of ourselves from our experiences growing up. I have also received specialist training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) accredited to a Level 2 by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP). I am developing a specialism in using mindfulness based approaches in my therapeutic work, undertaking a gold standard  Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy training course at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre.

When you first meet with me, I will try to get to know some of the reasons that have brought you to therapy, and some of the things that might be contributing to how you are feeling. I will also share my ideas with you, so that we can see if you find these ideas helpful and whether continuing to work together might begin to bring about the change you are seeking.
